Spooky Luminaries Craft

Supplies:
  • Paper bags
  • Pencil
  • A precision cutting tool
  • Sand
  • Battery-operated candles
  • Piece of cardboard or wood

Instructions:
  • Print out one of our pumpkin stencil designs.
  • To transfer the design to the paper bag, scribble on the back of the stencil with a pencil, and then place the stencil face up on the paper bag (you will want to place the scribble side on top of the bag). Using the pencil, trace the outline of the design. Make sure to press hard and the design should transfer onto the paper bag.
  • Remove the stencil and place a piece of cardboard or wood inside the bag.
  • Using the precision cutting tool, cut out the design on the bag (if you do not put something inside the bag, you may cut right through both sides of the bag).
  • Once the design has been cut out, remove the wood and fill the bottom of the bag with sand to weigh it down.
  • Finally, place a battery-operated candle into the bag, on top of the sand, and turn it on to create an eerie glow.
  • Caution: Do not use regular candles in the creation of the luminaries.
  • * Parents: Please make sure you help your kids with this activity.
